Glastonbury prep videos are trending but most of them are missing one thing: how do you  cope with tent pong?

Research by RinkyDink Candles found that searches for “Glastonbury shower” always peak just ahead of the festival, but organisers say: “Due to the enormous demands on our water supply, Glastonbury is not able to offer large numbers of public showers.”

So if it’s hot, with 210k people there, it’s going to be ripe.

RinkyDink founder Aimee Lauren said: “If you look at what people say you should bring to Glastonbury, everyone’s packing skincare and sequins but no one thinks about the scent of their tent.

“There’s loads of things that can funk it up - food, feet, morning breath, wet clothes. So I decided to try something at Download recently - one of our pumpkin-shaped car diffusers.

“It made the whole tent smell like a cherry vanilla milkshake candle for the entire weekend. It was fab! Just make sure it’s screwed on tight.

“Combine this with a body spray (I used our salted caramel blondie and midnight pomegranate ones) to keep the tent smelling fresh!

“And pro tip - citronella spray is a great insect repellent. Just spray it at the entrance - sparingly though, it honks!”

Aimee’s tips for a pong-free Glastonbury

  • Open all tent doors and vents for at least an hour

  • Leave shoes outside tent - feet have over 250k sweat glands each

  • Don’t leave open food in the tent

  • A portable fan moves the air, which evaporates moisture

And if it’s raining:

  • Put your tent uphill - water flows downhill

  • Use your tent “porch” as a mud room

  • Get a poncho

  • Waterproof bag for your phone, battery etc - silica gel packs are moisture magnets

  • Gore-Tex boots are better than wellies

  • Bring extra socks - work out how many you think you’ll need and double it

  • Bring bin bags

  • Bring two towels - one microfibre (quick drying) if possible, so you can rotate

  • A folding chair is the festival throne

A good tip is to change your phone lock screen to show a friend’s number so, if you lose it, whoever finds it can call them.

Sounds optimistic? Glastonbury’s lost-property team is known for being among the best around. Items returned include: iPhones, wallets, purses (often with cash inside), kindles, menstrual pads, memory cards, glasses, and cameras.

The clean-up for Glastonbury works out at about £2.40 per person (£500k for 210k people). If it rains a lot that goes up to £3-£4 per person. Each person leaves behind about 10kg of waste.
